SW Chapter 2 SW Chapter 3 SW Chapter 4 SW Chapter 5 SW Chapter 6 SW Chapter 7 SW Chapter 8Last Thursday I was able to attend the PLUS Southwest Chapter meeting in Scottsdale Arizona. I knew I wasn’t in Minnesota anymore when I heard the pilot say the temperature was 107 degrees when we landed. Of course all the Southwest Chapter members attending the meeting let me know that is was “unseasonably warm”.

This Chapter shows what is possible when despite being one of the smaller chapters a committed group of industry individuals professionals commit to providing top-notch educational and networking events. The program, the format, and the overall event was wonderful. Almost 60 industry professionals attended the event.

I was able to kick the day off with a presentation about PLUS and its benefits and discuss the value of associations. We also had time to hear from attendees about what they value about PLUS and what they would like to see from their association. I welcome the opportunity to attend your chapter meeting as well and have a conversation with members of your chapter about PLUS. Just give me a call.

This Southwest Chapter session then had two panels. The first topic was Risk Management & the Insured Real Estate Professional. On that panel the experienced real estate professionals and professional liability insurance professionals discussed the risk being in seen in the real estate market and on real estate agents, brokers, title companies and others. This was particularly timely considering the new TILA and RESPA forms being required for residential real estate by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Then a group of knowledgeable claims and underwriters in the lawyers professional lines, discussed the issues for lawyers professional liability coverage.

After lunch, and before wrapping up the day, motivational speaker Steve Welker told his story of perseverance and “Radical Resiliency”. A former P&C insurance agent, Steve chose to move his life forward despite sustaining devastating injuries in a car accident that left him blind just a few weeks before he became a first-time father of twin boys. Despite this setback, Steve has overcome and now with the help of Orbit his guide dog, Steve lives a full life and tells his story to many people each year.

I want to again thank the leadership of the PLUS Southwest Chapter for having me at their event and thank all the great people I met. Looking forward to seeing you in Dallas in November.
