We’d like to send a special thank you out to the Hartford Chapter, who recently held their annual Diaper Drive in support of My Sister’s Place. The Diaper Drive took place on March 21 and 29, and the Chapter was able to collect over 25,000 diapers!
My Sister’s Place is a local shelter and support organization for families who are homeless due to domestic violence, eviction, or unemployment, and serves approximately 1,200 people each year through its multiple programs. The diapers collected by this drive will go to help families in need throughout the area. On average, about 5,000-6,000 diapers are used monthly, and this drive accounts for almost half of their yearly need. Importantly, public assistance vouchers can only be used for food and not diapers or other necessities, so donating diapers is the equivalent of handing money directly to those in need.
The committee was able to secure donations from several key corporate sites including XL, Travelers, Willis Towers Watson, Insurity, AIX, Raymond Law Group, LLC, and Hanover. They hope to do even better next year!
Thank you to the Hartford Chapter for their wonderful effort in support of a good cause!
To all of the PLUS Hartford Community:
I want to express my deepest gratitude for contributing and making this Diaper Drive a success for the second year in a row. The overwhelming generosity from our insurance community was evidenced by the support you have had for this cause. We have surpassed everyone’s expectations through a combination of the individual contributions that were collected at our annual PLUS Madness Event held in March, as well as the bulk donations* collected throughout the area from our local companies and firms.
The diapers that everyone unselfishly donated were able to fill several truckloads and we are not done yet. All the diapers are being brought to My Sister’s Place shelter in Hartford. Last year we estimated that we had close to 15,000 diapers. This year we had over 25,000 Diapers!
I will continue to update you on our success as well as future opportunities as they arise. In September, we are having a participation day event at The Hole in the Wall Camp and our annual golf tournament where the funds donated directly support the PLUS Foundation. Please check the PLUS website and our LinkedIn group page for updates.
*Special thanks to Hanover/AIX and Smith Brothers who collected over 5,000 and 4,000 diapers respectively. Additional honorable mentions to HCC, BRP, Raymond Law Group, Ironshore, Travelers, Wilson Elsner, Locke Lord, Hudson, and AmWins Brokerage of New England who all contributed to the success of the drive.
