The PLUS Canada Chapter recently donated $2,500 to a local charity, Lawyers Feed the Hungry. Dave Barry from the chapter steering committee was there to present the check, which will feed 350-400 people in need.

About the charity…

Every dollar matters. Because when you donate to Lawyers Feed the Hungry, you’re not only helping feed people… You’re changing lives.

The Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program (LFTH) was established in 1998 to help feed people in the community who are burdened with the devastating effects of poverty and hunger.

In 2014, the Toronto program served an average of 1,100 hot meals to residents-in-need each week in the Law Society cafeteria — more than 60,000 meals a year. It required approximately $350,000 a year to sustain it — all funded by donations.

The average cost of one meal is $5 — not much more than the cost of a latte. More than 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to the program, with less than 10 per cent going to administration and fundraising.

Lawyers Feed the Hungry programs fight hunger year-round in Toronto, Barrie, London, Ottawa and Windsor. Through the generosity of donors and the tireless support of volunteers, we provide meals to the hungry and financial support to charitable agencies that help with hunger relief.
