Paul Lavelle will moderate a panel at the 2017 PLUS conference called “The New Realities for Insurers and D&Os in Bankruptcy.” The panel will focus on how insurance has traditionally covered losses relating to bankruptcy, and the changing state of bankruptcy, bankruptcy court, bankruptcy trustees as a whole.
Lavelle is the president of LVL Claims Services, a professional liability firm that serves the management liability sector. According to their website, LVL provides comprehensive claims services across a broad range of aspects relating to Professional Liability Claims Management. Lavelle is also a former board member of PLUS.
According to Lavelle, there are more companies in bankruptcy today than there ever has been before, yet not many people fully understand the laws and coverage relating to bankruptcy. He believes that its essential to understand issues relating to bankruptcy and that having this panel at the PLUS conference this year will help people understand the concept better.
“I believe it is a less understood area of law. I think carriers are confused by it, brokers don’t understand it, reinsurers are paying for it, and I think as we’re having more and more bankrupt entities, or I should say, clients dealing with bankruptcy and bankruptcy courts, its going to be important to understand how this plays out,” Lavelle said.
Lavelle said that claims professionals will benefit the most from the panel, followed by brokers and underwriters. He believes claims professionals will benefit the most because they deal with bankruptcy claims on a day-to-day basis and are affected most by the changing laws and policies.
Lavelle hopes people leave the panel having learned not only about how bankruptcy court works and how bankruptcy is covered, but are also familiar with how those laws and policies are changing.
“They’ll be learning in the up-to-the-minute changes in regards to bankruptcy, bankruptcy court, bankruptcy trustees, and how insurance plays into that,” Lavelle said.
Attendees of the panel will “learn from people with experience in regards to how bankruptcy with influence lawsuits in the professional liabilities line up over the coming years”, Lavelle said.
This panel will answer questions and give important information on a complicated and difficult to understand topic.
Be sure to attend this informative panel. Register for the 2017 PLUS annual conference, held from November 1-3 in Atlanta, GA.
